About Us
Who are we?
"In everything, do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Matthew 7:12
The St. Augustine Wellston Center is an independent 501(c)(3) confronting and alleviating food insecurity within the Wellston community. We believe everything individual possesses inherent, intrinsic value and worth by simply being human, deserving of respect regardless of their abilities, actions, or social standing. All humans have the same worth and are therefore entitled to equal rights, respect, and opportunities, regardless of their background.
The right to food security is a fundamental human right, meaning it pertains to every individual simply by virtue of being human, regardless of characteristics like nationality, religion, or socioeconomic status. This right encompasses not only the availability of nutritious food, but also its accessibility, adequacy and sustainability.

Who do we serve?
The St. Augustine Wellston Center serves hundreds of households in need every year from the 63112, 63133, 63121, and 63120 ZIP codes. Members are allowed to take home one food bag per month. For proof of residency, ID and current mail must be brought before taking home a bag.

Our grocery menu provides one week's worth of grocery items for each household. Food items are designed to support a balanced and nutritional diet, including, but not limited to, milk, eggs, frozen chicken, frozen fish, frozen tamales, fresh and packaged fruit and vegetables, pasta, rice, dry beans, soups, chili, ravioli, cooking oil, bread, and breakfast cereal. We provide personal hygiene items as well; including toilet paper, laundry detergent, diapers, adult pullups, feminine products, toothpaste and brushes, deodorant, soap and shampoo.

The Wellston Center has no charge for Food Pantry menu items, personal hygiene items, nor school supplies (backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, new shoes). We provide very low prices on quality and lightly-used clothing and household items (items for kitchen, bedroom, toys, etc.) from the Thrift Store. The Food Pantry and Thrift Store share a single location, creating a convenience for visitors.
